About

Science of Caring is a monthly online publication — and annual print publication — from UCSF School of Nursing. Our mission is to deliver original, insightful stories about important issues in health care from the perspective of nurses and nurse scientists.

We draw on a small group of experienced health care writers whose work has appeared in many different publications, including the Economist.com, the San Francisco Chronicle and the Washington Post. In addition, nurse scientists, clinicians and students from UCSF School of Nursing will periodically contribute their voices.

The decision to move to a monthly online publication emerged from our belief that amid today’s seismic shifts in health care, a leading school of nursing has a responsibility to more steadily assert its voice than is possible with a twice-a-year print publication. In addition, an online presence means we can make our voice available to a much wider audience. Too often, despite nurses’ essential and growing roles in delivering care — and the outstanding communication efforts of many of our colleagues — our voices can be hard to find.

Here's hoping that will change soon and that this publication can play a part in the process.
